Backstage Insight On Why Brock Lesnar Destroyed John Cena

Two reputations were meant to be enhanced at SummerSlam.

The idea behind Brock Lesnar destroying John Cena at SummerSlam was to get both wrestlers over, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. WWE wanted Brock to come across as a monster, they wanted him to break away from the pack of normal wrestlers. In the case of Cena, the ideas was that the beating he took would get him over as a sympathetic babyface. Fans in theory would've respected Cena for not quitting and taking the beating like a man. However, that aim was a distinct failure. Cena ended up with very little gained from the match. Fans didn't care about his resolve, they booed him throughout. When the show had ended and Cena stood up to leave, fans in Los Angeles chanted €œNa na na na, good bye,€ in hope that he'd be taking time off. WWE shouldn't be too concerned about that though. They found overwhelming success in their mission to get Lesnar over. Fans in attendance were in awe of Brock's dominating performance. Those watching at home were raving about the match on social media, and the wider casual audience also took notice, with the result being reported on mainstream news sites such as TMZ.com. The boldness of the booking really was remarkable. Lesnar's pummelling of Cena was unique in the modern era, it's unheard of for a star at the franchise level to allow for such a squash to take place. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter points out how the likes of Hogan and Austin would never have allowed for such a scenario to take place. John Cena deserves a lot of credit and respect for his role in all of this. The fact he allowed Lesnar to dominate him is testament to John's self confidence and assurance as the franchise star. He had no worries about being made to look weak, which shows just how strong Cena really is when it comes to his position in the company. He knows he'll be fine, he knows he'll be bouncing back in the future, whether it's at Night Of Champions or further down the line.
