Backstage Update On Drew McIntyre's WWE Status (WWE News)

No, WWE's Drew McIntyre is not shooting Highlander just yet.

Despite previous reports that Drew McIntyre's recent 'suspension' was a way for the Scottish Warrior to be written off WWE TV to film the upcoming Highlander remake, that is said to not be the case.

For those who may have missed last week's SmackDown, McIntyre was suspended by Nick Aldis after attacking a referee during the Cody Rhodes vs. Aleister Black main event. In the aftermath of that, the Wrestling Observer reported that the three-time WWE World Champion was suspended so that he could head off to shoot that movie.

Per PWInsider Elite, "there is nothing to" those rumblings of big Drew taking a break to film Highlander. At least, not right now. Instead, this suspension is just the next part of McIntyre's current storyline.

Added to that, Nick LoPiccolo of Paradigm Talent Agency - the agency that represents various wrestlers, including Drew McIntyre - took to X to shoot down those previous reports from WOR, stating that Highlander isn't due to start filming until April of next year, and also reiterating that Henry Cavill, the film's lead, is currently recovering from a torn ACL. As LoPiccolo explained, "The movie shoots in April 2026 and I've worked the schedule out so it won't affect WWE creative."

Directed by the John Wick franchise's Chad Stahelski, the Highlander reboot stars Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod, with Drew McIntyre playing Connor's brother Angus. Also on board are fellow heavy hitters such as Karen Gillan, Jeremy Irons, Kevin McKidd, and Russell Crowe, with Dave Bautista playing the villainous Kurgan this time out.
