All Elite Wrestling decided to make Jade Cargill its first TBS Champion before the tournament to crown the inaugural title-holder even began.

This is according to Dave Meltzer, who writes as much in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Cargill completed her journey to the gold on this week's episode of Dynamite, winning the tournament by besting Ruby Soho in the finals, having felled Red Velvet and Thunder Rosa to reach that stage.

Meltzer notes that while Cargill beating Soho may have come off as AEW reacting to Big Swole's recent criticism of the promotion for a perceived lack of diversity, this wasn't the case. Jade was taking the gold all along.

AEW announced it was introducing a second singles title for its women's division on 6 October 2021. Three weeks later, the field was populated, with the company unveiling a bracket for a tournament culminating on Dynamite's big TBS debut this week. As one of the division's higher-ranked wrestlers, Cargill was given a first-round bye.

Jade is a true home-grown AEW star, having worked her very first wrestling match under the promotion's banner. That mixed tag clash saw her and Shaquille O'Neal face Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet in March 2021.
