The Corporate Champion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S706eS95vqE After coming out of his feud with D'Lo as the victor, X-Pac retained the title from October 1998, until Early 1999. What up and coming superstar would finally oust him for his belt? None other than Shane McMahon. But it wasn't the disaster it should have been on paper. Dx and the Corporation were already embroiled in a heated feud, when Shane and X-Pac started getting at each other's throats. On the February 15th episode of Raw, a match was signed pitting Shane and Kane against Triple H and X-Pac with X-Pac's European Title on the line. Using the tag rules to their advantage, the Corporate team walked away with the European title, leaving fighting champion X-Pac fuming. Adding fuel to the fire, Shane started booking himself in matches that allowed him to further rub it in. First he beat Light Heavyweight superstar Gillberg on Heat, who he struggled to get by. Post match, X-Pac challenged Shane to a title match at Wrestlemania 15. Next, he beat the Legion of Doom in a handicap match. Not the real L.O.D, a new one consisting of Patterson and Briscoe. Fitting that O.L.D is n anagram of L.O.D. Before the match, Shane proclaimed that beating X-Pac would, "be as easy as 1-2-3, Kid." When Wrestlemania came, Shane shocked everyone by not being completely shit. He and X-Pac put on a highly entertaining Wrestlemania match for the European title. Wearing one of his trademark jerseys mocking his opponents, Shane was the clear underdog who everyone wanted to see get his teeth kicked down his throat. Unfortunately a major shock prevented it, when Triple H turned on X-Pac, costing him the European title and joining the Corporate team in the process. Later that week, Shane announced that he was retiring on top, and taking the European title with him. He brought it out of retirement for one night only at No Mercy in the UK, again facing X-Pac. Much like Wrestlemania though, the interference of Triple H and Chyna would cost X-Pac the win. No Mercy was further proof that Shane McMahon was one of the better non-workers to step into a WWE ring, but his retirement of the title left the belt in limbo. Eventually the belt would return again, but its image had been tarnished once again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAe1B89UIOk
