Bret Hart's WrestleMania Matches - Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Vs. Yokozuna - WrestleMania X

The second of Bret and Yoko's WrestleMania battles, this was a touch under the first in terms of quality. In many ways it was also an attempt to right the unbelievable wrong of how WrestleMania IX ended, with Hulk Hogan on top as champion despite not even being in the main event of the show. This time justice prevailed, and Bret picked up the win to end the show held aloft as the hero of the World Wrestling Federation.

A lot of factors were working against this match. Both men were wrestling their second match of the night for a start. This may have been fine for the ultra-conditioned Hart, who also took part in the opening match of the show against his brother Owen, but Yokozuna was getting closer and closer to 600lbs at this point. Earlier in the night he had become the first heel WWF Champion to retain his title (against Lex Luger), but two bouts in one night may have been a step too far.

Yoko's size means a slow pace is inevitable, and he is simply too big for Hart to perform any real moves on. This leads to a lot of punching, rest holds and not a whole lot of action. Still, the coronation of Hart at the match's climax was a nice moment.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
