Bret Hart's WrestleMania Matches - Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Vs. Yokozuna - WrestleMania IX

WrestleMania IX was the first WrestleMania to be held outdoors, and that's pretty much all it has going for it. Bret Hart defended his hard-won WWF Championship in the main event of the show, going up against Royal Rumble winner and unstoppable massive man Yokozuna. Yoko was winning matches with the Banzai Drop, arguably the most logical finishing move in professional wrestling history, and had hit the move on Hart in the build up to the match.

Maybe I'm mad, but this match really isn't so bad. Yoko was pretty big at this point, but was still able to move around smoothly enough to put on a decent match with the right opponent. Bret Hart is the very definition of 'right opponent', and as such this turned out fine. There is quite a lot of nonsense too, but for some reason it is a little more palatable here. That might be because WrestleMania IX was practically nonsense from start to finish.

Hart would lose to Yoko here thanks to Mr. Fuji's seemingly acidic salt being thrown in his eyes. Moments later, Hulk Hogan would win the world championship and (mercifully) the event was over.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
