When Bret Hart first won the WWE Championship in October 1992, the world was shocked. There had never been a WWE Champion "like" Bret Hart. After the steroid scandal earlier that year, the company was pretty much forced to put the belt on a "smaller" (in other words, cleaner) wrestler.

Enter Bret Hart.

After defeating 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair in October 1992 in Canada, Bret went on a run of great title matches like fans had never seen before in the company. The classic match with Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series 1992 quickly comes to mind, but 'The Hitman' also had good matches with Razor Ramon and Yokozuna at Royal Rumble 1993 and WrestleMania IX, respectively.

Bret ended up losing the strap to Yoko at 'Mania, getting pinned after Mr. Fuji threw ceremonial salt into the champ's eyes - only for Hulk Hogan to beat Yokozuna in seconds just moments later, brother...

Looking back almost three decades later, it's clear how important this reign was. Not just for Bret, who main-evented WrestleMania and was World Champion for the first time but, perhaps more importantly, for the company which was going through some very hard times after the steroid scandal. With that said, it totally deserves this place on this list.

As far as his revenge on Yokozuna...
