Bret Hart's 5 WWE Championship Reigns Ranked From Worst To Best
1. WWE Championship (2nd) 20 March 1994 - 23 November 1994
...it came a year later.
At WrestleMania X, Bret finally defeated Yokozuna for the strap, celebrating in the ring with multiple other babyfaces. What really makes this reign better than all the others was the fantastic storyline 'The Hitman' had with his brother, Owen.
After having initially defeated Bret in a classic bout in the opener of WrestleMania X, Owen Hart found a way to win the King of the Ring with the help of Jim Neidhart. 'The Anvil', who had "helped" Bret retain the title earlier in the night against Diesel, was really just making sure that Bret was still the champion so that Owen Hart could humiliate him and take it from him.
It culminated in a Steel Cage Match for the belt at SummerSlam. Still exciting to watch 25 years later, the two brothers wrestled a brilliant match and told a brilliant story, with Bret just managing to escape after Owen's foot got caught in the cage.
A reign that began with an amazing moment at WrestleMania, had a perfect storyline, the best Steel Cage Match ever and some other very good matches (against Diesel, The 1-2-3 Kid and others) can't be anything but a big thumbs up.
As far as Bret Hart's reigns as WWE Champion go, it's safe to say this was the best there is, the best there was and (unless Bret still has an epic WWE Title reign left in him!) the best there ever will be.
