A singles match between Lesnar and John Cena is expected for the 20 September premium live event, Wrestlepalooza. WWE is yet to formally announce the match.

Fightful states that WWE planned on loading up tonight's SmackDown, as well as Wrestlepalooza, which takes place on the same day as AEW's All Out 2025 pay-per-view. WWE only announced Wrestlepalooza on 20 August, three months after the competition's show was confirmed for Toronto.

Lesnar has not appeared for WWE since SummerSlam, where he attacked Cena moments after John's Undisputed WWE Championship defeat to Cody Rhodes. This was Brock's first WWE showing in close to two years, with the TKO Group-helmed promotion refraining from using him after Lesnar's name was cited 44 times in Janel Grant's sex trafficking lawsuit against WWE and Vince McMahon. Until SummerSlam.

Cena and Lesnar are common WWE foes, having appeared together in matches on 13 televised WWE events since 2002. Their last bout was a World Heavyweight Title Triple Threat also featuring Seth Rollins at Royal Rumble 2025. For their last singles match, you have to go back another four months to Night of Champions 2014.
