3. The Alliance Versus The Mercenaries
'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan (captain), Nikolai Volkoff, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper, and 'The British Bulldog' Davey Boy Smith versus Sgt. Slaughter (captain), The Mounties and Akeem (with General Adnan, Jimmy Hart and Slick).
With apologies to The Bushwhackers, The Orient Express and Boris Zhukov, the retooled Alliance looks much steadier and the Mercenaries are much more imposing.
Jim Duggan's alliance with Soviet defector Nikolai Volkoff was the catalyst for Sgt. Slaughter's polarizing return as an Iraqi Sympathizer, believing America had gone 'soft' in the aftermath of the Cold War. Sarge had originally called on Akeem to join him and The Orient Express, but Akeem's WWF departure gave way to Zhukov.
In the new director's cut, Akeem remains and Mr. Fuji's Express is sidelined for The Rougeau Brothers, now repackaged as The Mounties with Ray Rougeau agreeing to postpone retirement to the end of the year (Jacques launched his solo run in January). With Tito Santana transferred, Volkoff aligns with Duggan and a new international coalition. Roddy Piper's vitriol for Slaughter draws him from the broadcast booth and the newly-returned British Bulldog seeks to put the bite on Sarge's turncoats.
An incredible Running Powerslam from Bulldog ousts Akeem first and Piper's Sleeper Hold vanquishes Raymond moments later. Jacques' new cattle prod is christened as he eliminates Volkoff, but it soon lands in Piper's hands. A double DQ results as Roddy jousts against Slaughter's Iraqi flag. The helpless Mountie takes a charging Duggan clothesline as 'Hacksaw' secures unconditional surrender.
