Chavo Guerrero Jr. Thinks AEW Needs MORE Micromanagement
Former AEW man calls for something no right-minded AEW fan wants to see.
Chavo Guerrero Jr.'s post-AEW media tour has continued with the now-former All Elite Wrestling on-air personality suggesting that the promotion needs more micromanagement.
The 51-year-old made this claim during a recent appearance on The Wrestling Inc. Daily. Comparing AEW to WWE, which Guerrero says micromanaged too much, Chavo stated his belief that this would help the younger wrestlers under Tony Khan's employ elevate their bouts beyond what he calls "spotfests":-
“In WWE the producers, the agents, they really got involved in your matches. In AEW, they kind of let you do your own thing. So, it’s almost like we need a happy medium. In WWE they micromanage you at times, and in AEW they didn’t do enough, I felt. I felt they really need to help a lot of the young guys just put things in the right spots. These guys are such talented wrestlers and such talented athletes, but sometimes it’s a spot fest. You’ve seen it, it’s just doing spots, and spots, just to do a spot. You know, just because you can do a backflip doesn’t mean you should do a backflip. I think that they need help in that.”
Guerrero spent a brief period of time in AEW from last summer, when he was brought in as Andrade El Idolo's executive consultant. Lasting a few months on television before taking time off to film season two of Young Rock (Guerrero is a wrestling coordinator on the show), Chavo was quietly removed from the company's roster this month, surprising even himself.
Khan has since claimed that while Chavo was on a week-to-week contract, he owed him a call. Guerrero, meanwhile, has drawn unfavourable comparisons between AEW and WCW.
It's safe to say his call for a more rigid agenting structure in AEW (a company that sells itself on the opposite) may fall on deaf ears.
