CM Punk: 8 Talking Points About His WWE Chicago Raw Return Tonight

8. Has He Signed A New Contract?

One of the most interesting questions right now is does a return mean Punk and WWE have agreed a new contract? Much of the debate taking place online argues that a Punk return is of little value if he isn't sticking around past July when his current contract expires. While short term it will be great to have Punk back in Chicago, it will be a long term wasted effort if he just ends up quitting in July anyway. If WWE have got him to return then there's a very good chance it was with the proviso of him signing a new year two or three year deal €” it wold be a bold gamble to invest a major Mania match and screen time in Punk for him to just take off again. A new contract would suit both parties. For WWE it secures them a full time draw who they are badly in need of. For Punk the new contract could have worked out all the issues that are bothering him, his exit gave him considerable leverage to demand some assurances if he was to come back. My personal opinion is that there's a very good chance a new deal is in place. However, given how poor Wrestlemania 30 was shaping up, perhaps WWE have simply decided to take Punk back despite him still leaving in July, a short term fix to the problems facing the company right now.
