CM Punk: 8 Talking Points About His WWE Chicago Raw Return Tonight

7. What Match Is Best For His Return?

The first thing to say about Punk is his return angle will be fantastic. In front of his hometown of Chicago it is going to be one of the loudest pops ever heard in a WWE arena. The potential for a Pipe Bomb 2 is clear to see and the whole thing is going to possibly be the best Raw moment of 2014. So what match will he be booked in for Mania 30? The popular opinion right now is that Punk will face Triple H (which was the original plan in January) and Daniel Bryan will be added to the title match to battle Orton and Batista. However, it actually makes far more sense for Punk to return as the third challenger for the title. Bryan's feud with Hunter is logical, it began at Summerslam 2013 and has continued in a big way for the last six months. Punk in contrast has only butted heads with management in a brief way compared to Bryan. Instead his story is that he quit WWE because he couldn't stand seeing the part timer Batista win the Rumble. Punk coming back and revealing his new contract had a clause to put him in the Wrestlemania 30 main event title match makes far more sense than him just coming back to take on Hunter. It also helps to achieve Punk's dream of going on last at Mania if the title match ends up going on as the Mania finale. Really it makes only minimal difference. The Hunter spot or Title spot are both major. Preferences will be different but as long as WWE book Punk in either match it should make fans happy.
