CM Punk's WWE Matches In Chicago Ranked From Worst To Best
1. CM Punk Vs. John Cena - WWE Championship (Money In The Bank 2011)
What else!?
John Cena was in the midst of his 'superman' run on top, while Punk was fresh off once-promising-yet-ultimately-disappointing runs with stables. So to say that this match looked like a guaranteed easy win for the WWE Champion on his way to SummerSlam would be a massive understatement. Until Punk sat cross-legged on ?ℎ?? night.
Unlike the weird WWE Backstage shtick, the pipebomb promo indeed changed the culture, putting an end to the New Nexus crap (thankfully) and launching Punk into the main event scene. Punk, who was considering leaving WWE for real when his contract expired - which factored into the storyline, as you know - came out to a god-like reaction, with his fellow Chicagoans silencing Killswitch Engage's 'This Fire Burns'. That is nothing short of impressive!!
Impressive would also describe the savage reaction that 'The Champ' got, walking down the ramp with the knowledge that, at least for one night, it was not about him. What followed was an absolute classic, full of emotional storytelling, dramatic near-falls, exciting reversals and shocking twists and turns that left the AllState patrons more impatient with every second.
But then once they saw Punk pin Cena after a GTS, they knew right then and there, it was all worth it. And after the performance of his life, surrounded by his fans with the WWE Championship in his hands and a shattered Vince McMahon left behind, Punk too knew right then and there... Chicago Made Punk!
