CM Punk's WWE Matches In Chicago Ranked From Worst To Best
5. CM Punk Vs. Umaga (Judgment Day 2009)
Punk's first run as World Champion didn't exactly set the world on fire, but a second consecutive Money in the Bank victory at WrestleMania showed there was some light at the end of the tunnel, and a move to SmackDown in the 2009 Draft gave Punk some new fresh faces to work with.
An example of that was the late Umaga, who prevented Punk from cashing-in on Edge for the Big Gold Belt yet again, thus becoming Punk's first rival on the 'blue brand'. The two got to open the Judgment Day pay-per-view in Chicago, exciting the crowd with a serviceable opening midcard match.
The focus was on Umaga's strength advantage early on, being able to cut off Punk's offense rather easily due to his huge size. Then, as the bout grew longer and the big man got tired, Punk's speed smartly came into play, putting the hometown hero back in the discussion. In the end, Punk blocked the Samoan Spike and went for the GTS, but he wasn't able to lift the 'Samoan Bulldozer', who connected with the Samoan Spike this time around for the win.
Some fans in the crowd were visibly disappointed with Punk's loss, having apparently forgotten the two most important WWE rules: a) "Mr. MITB" loses 95% of his matches; and b) wrestlers lose in their hometown 95% of the times. So what exactly was the shock there!?
