One of the most influential women's wrestlers of all time, could Gail Kim have a role to play at WWE Evolution this weekend? Possibly...

When asked about whether Gail could be a part of Evolution, Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp said that she could, pointing out how the former WWE Women's Champion has been backstage at several NXT shows in recent months. SRS also noted how Kim's relationship with the current WWE regime is "significantly better" than it was with the previous one.

Considering Evolution 2018 featured a battle royal that involved surprise appearances from various legends, Gail Kim would certainly fit the bill for a similar role in the battle royal taking place at this year's Evolution. Away from that, though, Kim could always be a part of the show in a backstage capacity, with the Canadian having plenty of experience working as a producer and in a creative capacity.

As alluded to, Gail Kim is one of the most important, influential female wrestlers of her time and beyond, helping to change the game and revolutionise women's wrestling when TNA introduced its Knockouts division.

Gail's two spells in WWE may have been sadly underwhelming - through no fault of her own - but her work in TNA is the stuff of legend, particularly her brutal, lengthy rivalry with Awesome Kong. That rivalry put the Knockouts division on the map and, with no exaggeration, made TNA destination viewing for many. While WWE was all about 'divas', TNA opted to shine a spotlight on badass women's wrestlers wrestling badass wrestling matches. It was snug, it was intense, and Kim and Kong were the perfect dance partners as the resilient underdog babyface and the maniacal powerhouse heel.

Away from that Awesome Kong rivalry, Gail Kim also had some great feuds with the likes of Mickie James, Taryn Terrell, ODB, the Beautiful People, and later Tessa Blanchard.

By the time Gail formally retired in early 2018, she was a seven-time TNA Knockouts Champion (including the inaugural Knockouts Champion), a one-time Knockouts Tag Team Champion (with Madison Rayne), and a member of the TNA Hall of Fame. That retirement saw Kim switch to a producer role for TNA, although she would be coaxed out of retirement at Rebellion 2019 for a match against Blanchard. Since then, Gail has laced them up one more time, being a part of an all-star ten-woman tag match in 2023 for the 1000th episode of TNA's weekly iMPACT! show.

Gail Kim would continue to serve as a producer in TNA until earlier this year, and she'd also be a part of the Anthem outfit's creative team for her final year or so with the company. While news of Gail's firing came as a massive shock to the wrestling world, it didn't take long for reports of talents in both WWE and AEW pushing for their respective promotions to bring her in.
