8. Becoming United States Champion
The United States Championship has lost much of its former lustre in recent years, but it’d be remiss to not mention Ambrose’s first WWE title reign.
While Reigns and Rollins occupied themselves with Team Hell No and the WWE Tag Team Championships, Ambrose concentrated on wresting the US Title from Kofi Kingston’s grasp. Ambrose would go-on to win the belt at Extreme Rules 2013 (the same night that Reigns and Rollins became tag champs), and The Shield’s dominance over WWE’s midcard scene became absolute.
Ambrose would go on to hold the belt for 351 days (a record under the WWE banner) before eventually dropping it to Sheamus in a 20-man battle royal. While his US Title was often ignored in-favour of the more important Shield group storylines, and many of Ambrose’s defences came by disqualification or count-out, he still mustered a total of 14 successful defences
