In some major news ahead of this week’s NXT broadcast, Edge is to make an appearance on Wednesday's black and gold brand outing.

The Rated-R Superstar first took to Twitter to tease just such an NXT appearance while visiting his wife Beth Phoenix, and that post was soon followed up by WWE officially confirming that the 2021 men’s Royal Rumble winner will indeed be appearing on Wednesday’s NXT show.

As of the 2020 Royal Rumble, a rule was introduced where the Rumble match winners were now able to challenge for the respective NXT Championship and NXT Women’s Championship at WrestleMania – as shown by 2020 women’s Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair opting to face then-NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 36.

Edge has already confronted WWE Champion Drew McIntyre on this week’s Raw, and he’s also due to make an appearance on Friday’s SmackDown to cross paths with Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Now, this upcoming NXT appearance from Edge would suggest that we’ll see the 11-time World Champion tease NXT Champion Finn Bálor as his opponent of choice for WrestleMania 37.

Online scuttlebutt suggests that Edge will end up taking on Roman Reigns at this year’s Showcase of the Immortals, but seeing McIntyre and possibly Bálor teased as possible ‘Mania opponents for the Canadian is a smart move until it’s officially announced who Edge will be going up against.
