The 'Best in the World' has had some truly spectacular matches on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

As we hurtle towards WrestleMania 42, all eyes are on one match. And it ain't Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton, no offence.

Through a combination of a rich shared history, some dynamite recent promos, and a collective apathy towards most of the other storylines in WWE right now, Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk is by far and away the hottest programme in the company as it gears up for their biggest show of the year.

This will be Punk's first singles match at a WrestleMania since his return to the company and his first time defending a World Title at the flagship event since 2012. A lot of eyes will be on the Straight Edge Superstar in Las Vegas, so now is the perfect time to look back at how we got here. At time of writing, Punk has competed at eight different WrestleManias. He's fought for titles, briefcases, and good old-fashioned pride, but which of his bouts has been the best? And where will his clash with Reigns end up when the final bell is rung?

Only time will tell...

8. vs Rey Mysterio - WrestleMania XXVI

Though not his first match on the Grandest Stage of Them All, Punk's appearance at WrestleMania XXVI was his first outing in a singles match.

Unfortunately, it was also his most forgettable Mania clash.

His opponent was Rey Mysterio, who had become the target of the Straight Edge Society. Punk and his band of bald weirdos attempted to convert the lucha legend, but failed at every step. Even the creepiest ever rendition of 'Happy Birthday' wasn't enough to sway him. If Mysterio lost this match, then he would be forced to join the group. If Punk lost, then... well, nothing would happen. Rey really needed a different lawyer around this time.

Mysterio won in just six-and-a-half minutes. The match was probably the best it could have been given the circumstances, as the two combatants had decent chemistry and were good workers. They simply weren't given the chance to get going. They would go on to have much better matches over the following months. This is one of those examples of WrestleMania being the start of a feud rather than the end, and it didn't do either of these guys any favours.
