Every WCW Heavyweight Champion: Where Are They Now?

21. Lex Luger

Lex Luger swooped in to save the day for WCW when Ric Flair dashed off to the WWF with their top title in tow. Luger snagged the vacant championship - one of two reigns with the Big Gold Belt for 'The Total Package.'

His second reign came more than six years after his first when he toppled Hulk Hogan on Nitro, only to lose it five days later back to the same man. Because... Hogan things.

While the former 'Narcissist' continued to ply his trade after WCW was sold, appearing in TNA and other promotions sporadically, he retired in the mid-2000s. Unfortunately, his post-WCW life has been a bumpy road with plenty of sad and devastating twists.

In 2003, his girlfriend, Miss Elizabeth, was found dead in his house. Four years later Luger suffered nerve damage after hurting his neck on a flight, temporarily paralysing himself from the neck down for months, eventually recovering enough to get use in his upper body again. Though told he'd be a quadriplegic for life, Luger has thankfully continued to recover over the years.

Despite still spending time in a wheelchair, he is now able to walk again on his own. He attends schools and clinics, telling people of his story for motivational speaking and still hits conventions and meet and greets where he can. Let's hope Luger can keep fighting the way he always has into the future.
