Every WWE Backlash PPV Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Backlash 2004
Backlash 2004 featured two of the very best matches in the event's history, and as such, was always going to be somewhere near the top of this list. The most famous of the two actually wasn't the main event bout, but rather the grisly war between Mick Foley and Randy Orton.
This is rightly seen as a landmark moment in Orton's career, as well as one of the most entertaining matches in Foley's action-packed back catalogue. The young upstart was able to defeat the legend, but not before being put through the wringer. Tables, barbed wire and thumbtacks (so many thumbtacks) were inflicted upon the Evolution member, but he emerged a bona fide star as a result.
The main event was similarly fantastic, but for different reasons. Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit were never going to live up to their WrestleMania XX masterclass - but boy did they come close. A screwy HBK finish was teased, sparking fury in the Canadian crowd, but Benoit survived to retain his World Heavyweight Championship.
