Every WWE Clash Of Champions Match Ranked From Worst To Best
13. Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. The Miz (2019)
This match should have been a lot better considering the narrative going in. This was The Miz's first Intercontinental title shot in over a year and the segments with Nakamura leading into Clash of Champions seemed to be leading to a great showcase for babyface Miz against an incredible opponent.
Unfortunately that narrative hook was never capitalised on properly, but the two men had good physical chemistry and delivered an enjoyable short title match. There could have been an exceptional character based contest, as Nakamura has proven his ability as a heel champion that elevates babyface challengers in NJPW and even with his US title defence against Rusev on SmackDown in late 2018.
The fact that the match isn’t that and is just a pretty standard midcard singles match will continue to disappoint even a year later. But for what it is, there’s a lot worse out there and Miz and Nakamura could have easily had a couple more matches together.
It could have been special if given a few more minutes and greater narrative focus, but this remains a lot of fun and was a solid title defence for Nakamura.
