The main event of Clash of Champions 2016 was the opposite of Roman and Rusev's battle, as their subsequent Hell in a Cell war was weaker than their match here.

Rollins and Owens have never truly excelled beyond good together in their WWE careers, being able to deliver decent contests without that necessary spark to propel them into greatness. This was the closest they’d come.

While this match was overbooked by the finish and went on for a bit too long, the narrative around Rollins' horror at being rejected by Triple H and his desire for vengeance against his new protege Kevin Owens made for a more interesting babyface title challenge than expected. Rollins wasn't a different man he'd been since his return yet, he was still angry and torn to the idea of Triple H, still using the Pedigree to show how much his former mentor had affected him.

This extra narrative spark and complexity to Rollins' character meant that their move exchanges felt more than just incoherent workrate, embedded with this compelling desperation. Even the overbooking had positives, signifying Rollins being beaten down by the interference that defined his victories a year before. A great main event that told a satisfying story.
