Once again, we have a good cash-in that’s sullied by what came afterward. With the ECW brand returning under the WWE umbrella, Rob Van Dam cashed his contract in advance, telling John Cena he wanted to wrestle him at One Night Stand. What followed is one of the most infamous title matches in company history, with the Hammerstein Ballroom crowd showering John Cena in hatred.

With help from Edge, Van Dam defeated Cena to win his first and only WWE Championship. On the debut edition of ECW on Sci-Fi, Paul Heyman awarded RVD with the newly christened ECW Championship, making him a double champion. Yes, things were on the up-and-up for Rob... but then, weed happened.

After getting busted for marijuana possession, RVD dropped his WWE and ECW championships to Edge and Big Show respectively before serving out a suspension. From then on, he failed to reach the heights he did at One Night Stand, and eventually, he would only make sporadic runs and appearances with the company.

While not exactly a great run, RVD will always have that moment at One Night Stand.
