Every WWE Release Of 2021 - Where Are They Now? (Five Years Later)

83. Jeff Jarrett

Then: There are few hustlers better than Jeff Jarrett in the business. Ain't he great? WWE boss Vince McMahon didn't think so when he cast Jarrett aside in January 2021 after several years of converging reports about creative team work mixed with in-ring cameos. Jeff's last WWE match to date was a 7-minute loss to fellow guitarist (ahem) Elias on the 4 February 2019 Raw.

Most of his workload fell behind the curtain after that. He'd actually rejoin the company in 2022 as Senior Vice President of Live Events, but that gig was short lived too. Beyond that, Jarrett worked as a special guest referee for The Usos vs. The Street Profits at SummerSlam '22.

The dude's covered a lot of ground, eh?

Now: He'd cover some more after exiting WWE yet again.

Jarrett made history by signing with AEW and showing up on TV in November 2022. That marked a whopping 21 years between his last WCW showings on TBS (for the death rattle days of Thunder) and All Elite's Dynamite show. Nobody could've predicted back in 2001 that Ol' J-E-Double-F would be back on the network more than 2 decades after Thunder's demise. It was strange, but somehow cool.

A genius level self-promoter, Jarrett has convinced Tony Khan to make him a key part of AEW's product on and off for years now, but hasn't wrestled under Khan's watch since January 2025. Do not be totally taken aback if Jeff manages to drum up another run for himself in WWE, AEW or elsewhere. You've got to admire his gift of the gab, if nothing else.
