Every WWE Release Of 2021 - Where Are They Now? (Five Years Later)
82. Big Show
Then: Like Mark Henry, Big Show appeared on the 4 January 2021 "Legends Night" edition of Raw and interacted with reborn HOF'er mauler Randy Orton. That was a wrap for the giant's WWE career. He left shortly thereafter and told anyone who'd listen that he'd grown frustrated with the creative process behind the scenes.
The wrestling fanbase wanted to gobble that sort of content up at the time, but it masked the truth: Show was physically incapable of doing much of note outside occasional cameos. What did he think was going to happen? He was hardly going to be headlining PLEs and working programs against the top stars on Raw and SmackDown by that point his career.
Now: AEW quickly announced that Paul Wight had joined them when his WWE deal lapsed in February. Suddenly, attention turned to the seemingly real prospect of Big Show tangling with super-workers like Kenny Omega on Dynamite or major All Elite pay-per-views.
Realistically, that was never on the cards. Wight was earmarked to be an announcer at most, but Tony Khan didn't take potential matches off the table if Mr. 'No More BS' (a cute play on words tied to his former WWE name) could get himself healthy.
It was an uphill battle considering the sheer state of his legs and practically everything else. Lugging around that frame for 25+ years in the industry had taken its toll on Paul, and he's been used sparingly as an active wrestler under AEW's banner since signing.
To date, Wight is still #AllElite, but he doesn't do a great deal.
