Every WWE Release Of 2021 - Where Are They Now? (Five Years Later)
34. Zechariah Smith
Then: Big Zechariah here didn't progress beyond training matches at WWE's in-house Performance Center before he was ousted from the books in August 2021. Arguably his biggest claim to fame was portraying The Undertaker on NBC series Young Rock. They yelled cut before he could Tombstone anybody or say, "Rest In Peace". Probably.
The former collegiate basketball player had an impressive look, but that didn't make it a given that he'd force his way onto major shows. However, Smith did have a one off cameo on an episode of SmackDown in 2020. You'd be forgiven for forgetting that even happened though. It wasn't exactly high profile.
Now: Things have picked up on the pro wrestling front for Zach since leaving WWE. He worked a match for TNA/Impact Wrestling in January 2022, then hit the independents before landing a semi-regular spot on the NWA roster. There, Smith worked 32 matches, including bouts vs. EC3 and old WWF 'Attitude' favourite Gangrel.
Yes, that is a thing that actually happened in the year of our lord 2024.
Somewhat unthinkably, All Japan saw something in the renamed Jack Talos in 2025, and he's since wrestled a full 42 matches for the promotion. Talos is currently one half of the reigning AJPW Tag-Team Champions alongside his partner Ren Ayabe. It's funny how things work out in this wacky biz, huh?
The ex-Zachariah Smith has accomplished all of this without having even one official WWE match to his name. Apparently, someone enjoyed his 'Taker cosplay on Young Rock. Go check that show out if you haven't already. It's good fun.
