WWE Old School RAW episodes generally see a number of big names from the past return for nostalgia pops, and SmackDown had its own 'Blast From The Past' episode in 2012. The problem was that the star power RAW gets wasn't here, and the main event of the show saw Sheamus and 'Mean' Gene freakin' Okerlund defeat Daniel Bryan and Alberto Del Rio. No, not a typo.

The highlight of the show by far was a Piper's Pit segment featuring Daniel Bryan and AJ Lee. Bryan was really gathering steam as one of the most over individuals in the company at the time, with the crowd engaging in huge duelling Yes! and No! chants throughout the segment.

Hunico defeated 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan by disqualification after Sgt. Slaughter got involved, a feud that would shockingly carry on all the way until the next live episode of SmackDown some three months later.

But still, Gene Okerlund won a match against Bryan and Del Rio in the main event. Make of that what you will.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
