As Christmas 2014 approached, SmackDown made it to 800 episodes and celebrated this landmark with another live episode. Survivor Series was in the rearview mirror and as a result The Authority was out of power, although this was about to become obsolete. Seth Rollins was gaining speed as the most important in-ring performer in the company, but he came up short in the main event of this show against then-Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler.

This was the last time that fans truly believed WWE were going to pull the trigger on Dolph. He was the sole survivor in the Winner Takes All Survivor Series main event and was frequently working with Rollins at the top of the card, and maybe just maybe it was his time. Hindsight tells us that this was foolish thinking.

The 800th episode of SmackDown was a solid show, nothing more nothing less. One of the highlights was Kane delivering the Tombstone to The Bunny, a sentence that is every bit as fun as one assumes.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
