One of the more heartbreaking releases during this talent purge was Drake Maverick. His response to the firings, seemingly filmed just moments after receiving the news, really hit home just how this affected performers. Not only upset at losing his job in this time of uncertainty, he was devastated to lose the opportunity to say goodbye to people, and not being able to do something he loved anymore.

Already booked to be part of the Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament after the current champion was unable to travel, Drake was one of the few guaranteed a few more matches before being let go, and his vow that viewers would get everything he had in his final matches with the company really got to viewers who showered him in their support.

And then something odd happened. WWE capitalized on his video and started to run an angle as if his performance in the Cruiserweight Title tournament was him fighting for his job. Whether they rehired him based on the support he got from fans or had planned this storyline all along, it's truly tasteless to run that when so many of his coworkers were being culled.
