EVERYTHING Vince McMahon Gave Up On In 2020 (So Far)
7. Social Distancing
Up until April, WWE filmed its shows live, just as they always had. Like that cartoon dog we've all seen, they looked at the world burning around them and said "this is fine" right up until 3 April, when Florida's stay-at-home order was put into action. This brought out all manner of crazies in the wrestling world:-
On 9 April, the very same day that Linda McMahon's Super PAC to reelect President Trump donated $20 million to the state of Florida, WWE found itself coincidentally added to the list of essential businesses in Florida. According to officials, WWE is critical to Florida's economy.
On 10 April, Vince made the decision not to record shows upfront, instead filming shows live again. An almost instant backlash against such a dangerous decision led to the release of the following statement:-
"We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance, following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff. As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its Superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination, and perseverance."
