GFW: 6 Sides Of Impact (20/07/2017)
1. Point Of Impact
A solid episode overall, GFW has some intriguing storylines bubbling over going into next week’s Impact Wrestling. The company seems to have come a long way in a short period of time.
The X Cup is a solid foundation for the show, with total non-stop action an ironic theme of the tournament; however, the inclusion of Lashley in Sydal's post-match promo is a curious direction for arguably the X Division's top star.
Meanwhile, GFW’s decision to use Eli Drake to plug the Swole-Mates show has done nothing for Drake’s momentum or credibility. Nevertheless, his win this week will be reassuring for the neglected star and hopefully begin a renewed focus on elevating him to the star status he deserves.
The main event feud is also developing nicely; however, with Konnan no longer competing in-ring, it does raise question marks of where the pay off lies. With Lashley in pursuit of gold, an LAX allegiance with the former champ seems a logical resolution to this issue.
With decent star power, a well of hungry talents eager to break into the main event and an undercard that consistently wows each week, the shows have vastly improved from the output of just six months ago.
As the saying goes, old ways won’t open new doors and with new working relationships in India, Japan, Mexico and the UK, new management has certainly done just that. Whether or not these changes manage to open new eyes to the product as well remains to be seen.
