The man is a genius.

The days of blockbuster movies being turned into billion dollar bankers based on the names of the actors involved are long gone. There are arguably only a small pocket of actors who can command that sort of loyalty from their fans (somewhat illogically, one of them is Adam Sandler) and it's shrinking as the likes of Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise simply aren't the draw they once were.

But there's still one man you can MOSTLY rely on to be a marketing tool in his own right: Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

The former WWE star is currently one of Hollywood's elite, being paid an astronomical amount for his movies and suffering absolutely no dents when things don't go quite to plan. It's not like Baywatch harmed Jumanji's incredible performance at the box office, is it?

The hulking star - legitimately one of the hardest working people in the industry - has a lot of projects coming up, including the inevitable Jumanji sequel, Fighting With My Family, Black Adam, Skyscraper and San Andreas 2. He's basically king of the blockbuster and when you're talking about those potential returns, it's no surprise that he's on the big bucks.

In his case, "the big bucks" means $22m, which is what he is being paid for 2020's crime caper Red Notice (as well as 30% of profits made - according to WSJ - since he's a producer, the clever devil). But it's part of that fee that's really turning heads.

Perhaps in part thanks to his time in WWE, The Rock knows the value of his own brand, and pushing his own future endeavours as a priority. He's worked himself into a position where he's an ambassador (for charities, companies he works for and cunnilingus most recently, since he famously offered Dj Khaled some much needed advice on that front). He KNOWS that if he talks about something, its stock price will go up.

So why not take advantage of that? Even when it's your own movie you're endorsing?

Thanks to The Rock's huge social media presence (he has 104 million Instagram followers and almost 13 million on Twitter), he has made the words he writes a precious currency, and the terms of his contract for Red Notice (according to Variety) have revealed how valuable that currency is. Because Johnson has a clause in his contracts that stipulates he will be paid $1m in social media fees.

The man is a genius. He's getting paid to promote a movie that he stands to make a lot from in the form of his cut of the profits. He's basically paying himself to make sure he can pay himself even more. On top of a $21m flat fee. He's the real Million Dollar Man.
