Xavier Woods has been confirmed as GUNTHER's next Intercontinental Title challenger, and the pair will do battle on WWE SmackDown next week.

The New Day man cheated to beat short-term rival LA Knight on this week's show - Woods was caught hauling at Knight's ring gear during a pin attempt by the referee, but successfully used the same tactics to score the win. That, for reference, was a response from Xavier to LA's own heel strategy recently.

Later, Woods confronted GUNTHER and the rest of Imperium during a backstage promo and said he'd like to challenge for the IC gold before WWE's upcoming 2023 Draft. The company has since announced that match for next week's show.

Woods vs. GUNTHER is on.

There's no chance the former King Of The Ring winner upsets GUNTHER's incredible title reign, but he will work a great match with the big Austrian. GUNTHER has been on fire since becoming champ, and Xavier is keen to show WWE higher-ups what he's capable of without New Day stablemates Kofi Kingston or Big E around.

May the lord have mercy on his chest though. It's about to get chopped!
