WWE might've picked their 2023 men's Royal Rumble winner for next January already.
Pave the way for one Cody Rhodes next January.
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE officials are toying with the thought of recapturing Triple H's memorable comeback trail in 2001-2002. Company cameras were on hand to capture footage of Cody's pec surgery recently, and it's believed that'll pop up in various video packages towards the end of the year.
There's a genuine belief that Rhodes will return to the mix before his estimated nine-month recovery time lapses. If so, then he'd possibly be available for early-2023's Royal Rumble, and he'd be a shoe-in to win the thing if he was able to return.
Start placing those bets now.
Older fans (or younger ones who love their retro goodness on WWE Network/Peacock) will remember Hunter's incredible comeback from his quadriceps in early-January 2002. Madison Square Garden boomed with noise as 'The Game' was thrust into view as the company's new top babyface.
Could the same fate be waiting for Cody next year? Don't rule it out, especially if WWE's writers are already pondering a repeat. Perhaps Bono will also let them use U2's excellent 'Beautiful Day' track again too.
