Jerry Lawler Addresses "Ramen Noodle Moonsault" Comment From WWE Raw

'The King' speaks out following 13 April's controversial quip.

Jerry 'The King' Lawler courted controversy with a remark made while commentating on Akira Tozawa vs. Austin Theory on the 13 April episode of WWE Raw, referring to Tozawa's trademark senton as a "ramen noodle moonsault."

The 70-year-old had refrained from speaking out on the matter until the most recent edition of his Jerry Lawler Show podcast, during which he referred to the comment as a product of a lack of chemistry with broadcast partners Byron Saxton and Tom Phillips, who Lawler claims were supposed to shoot him down in response.

'King' called back to his time working SmackDown with Mauro Ranallo, and noted that he'd often wonder if the popular NXT announcer was making move names up when he referred to Japanese techniques he'd never heard of before. He then said that his Raw slip was a play on that and that a Michael Cole or Jim Ross would have responded by saying "oh, 'King', you know better than that," but he doesn't have the same chemistry with Phillips and Saxton yet, hence why they didn't chime in.

Lawler said that he was trying to make a joke of himself, like he didn't know what he was talking about, shouting out the likes of Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura who'd regularly do the same.
