WWE failed to acknowledge The King and The Kat were dating and then married during her run in the company during the late '90s and early 2000s. Maybe this was because Miss Kitty, who held the WWE Women's Championship, was 21-years Lawler's junior. However, this didn't stop The King from putting her way more over than her ability deserved while also screaming "here Kitty Kitty Kitty" whenever she appeared in a tone only a dog would be able to hear. In February 2001, The Kat was released by WWE while she was in a storyline with the Right to Censor and Lawler. The King, of course, was sticking up for her right to nudity against them. There were rumours of her being difficult to work with which may have led to her release. Nevertheless, Jerry stuck by his fair lady and quit WWE after 10 years of service, despite being part of the company's leading announce team with Good Ol' Jim Ross. King was replaced by former ECW supremo Paul Heyman who was now employed by WWE. It's fair to say Happy Heyman, as Ross so fondly calls him, filled the King's throne and then some. Their call at WrestleMania X7 is one of the greatest in WWE history. Jerry returned just over eight months after leaving, following the separation from his feline friend of a wife. The Kat, allegedly, cheated on The King with an independant wrestler. It was only a logical move by Lawler, he quit the company for his wife and now she was wasn't with him, he returned.
