John Cena will officially bring the curtain down on his WWE career at Saturday Night's Main Event on 13 December in Washington, and he's pretty darn serious about never wrestling another match afterwards. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cena said he's "absolutely 100% done" after this.

No more matches, no more comebacks and no more 'Super Cena'.

Of course, John himself knows the way this normally goes. He brought up that "WWE superstars don’t necessarily retire, and that "they always kind of hang on for one more match". That's something Cena is keen to avoid, because he wants to stay true to the retirement gimmick he's been working throughout 2025.

The guy also has a lot of work waiting for him in Hollywood away from pro wrestling. Plus, he can always show up in a non-wrestling cameo role on Raw, SmackDown, NXT or WWE PLE in the future. There'd be nothing stopping Cena from becoming guest GM for the night, or being named as a host of WrestleMania - stuff like that.

However, when it comes to actually pulling on some boots and going to work as active talent, John says he's finished. Rather definitively, he told viewers on Kimmel: "The 13th of December on Peacock is my last in-ring performance. I will never wrestle again".

Not many legends have been able to stick to those grandiose, definitive statements in the past. For example, Shawn Michaels told anyone who'd listen between 2010-2018 that he'd never wrestle again, but then had one last whirl over in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel 2018. It proved to be a disaster.

Similarly, even Steve Austin returned to the ring in 2022 after 19 years of self-imposed exile. Admittedly, his brawl with Kevin Owens at 'Mania 38 was a more positive experience than the one HBK had alongside Triple H, Kane and The Undertaker.
