John Cena's 10 Most Notorious Urban Legends

9. He Used His Rapper Gimmick On TV After Rapping On A Bus

Story: When John Cena started in WWE on the Smackdown roster in 2002 he had a very generic character. He looked like one of those "Create A Wrestler" guys you might see in a wrestling video game. He had the short hair, the big muscle, the tights and the boots that matched. Then one day while WWE was on a tour bus he started letting loose by doing a rap that management heard. A few weeks later, Cena dressed as Vanilla Ice on the Halloween episode of Smackdown in 2002 and he delivered a memorable rap. The response to the rap was so great that he started doing it on television regularly. Here's a news item about it from Cena being interviewed in The Source magazine in 2004: "Cena stated that Stephanie McMahon heard him freestyling while they were on a WWE tour bus. She did not believe that the rap he was performing was unrehearsed, so he did a freestyle about a can of tuna fish she was holding in her hand at that moment." The story could be fabricated because that sort of things happens once in a while although in Cena's case he's not the type to do that kind of thing. Why People Believe It: It's been told enough times by different people that it seems believable. Plus, if you've heard Cena rap then you know he has the skills to do something like rapping about a can of tuna fish. Should We Believe It: Yes. Every story that people tell about Cena seems to involve him being a smart guy that works hard, so it wouldn't be a surprise that he did something like that on a tour bus in order to get noticed.
