Figure Four Weekly and the WWE star's own Twitter account have announced that Glenn Jacobs (Kane) has notched a campaign win in his bid to become the Republican candidate for mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

There are provisional votes still to be counted, as well as 43 outstanding votes that could sway the decision if election officials decide they're eligible at this stage, but Jacobs now holds a 17-vote lead over Brad Anders in second place.

Kane received 14,633 votes to Anders' 14,616. Bob Thomas then came in third place with 11,296 votes.

Jacobs sent out a quick tweet to thank those who had supported his campaign. "Thanks to everyone who helped win this historic victory", he wrote. "The people who cast a ballot for me, my great team, my wonderful volunteers. Looking forward to VICTORY in the general election!".

That general election takes place on 2 August, and (due to the way initial votes have panned out) it'll be the Republican candidate who stands as favourite to win. That means Kane/Jacobs is closer than ever to standing as mayor of Knox County.
