During a recent edition of his 'Kliq This' podcast, Kevin Nash revealed the true reason why his proposed pay-per-view match with CM Punk was scrapped in 2011. According to the former Diesel, Triple H was "hot" after hearing shoot comments about Stephanie McMahon from Punk, so he cancelled the Nash vs. Punk match and booked his own instead.

Backstage, Hunter approached Kev and said: 'You’re not wrestling Punk, I am. I’m beating that motherf***er'.

The planned Nash vs. Punk match would never end up happening. Instead, Trips beat the outspoken 'Voice Of The Voiceless' in a 'No Disqualification' effort at Night Of Champions 2011. Somewhat bizarrely, Hunter and Nash would go on to work a 'Sledgehammer Ladder Match' at TLC later the same year.

Meanwhile, Punk won the WWE Title at Survivor Series, then defended it vs. Alberto Del Rio and The Miz in a Triple Threat TLC bout after Nash and Trips worked their own war.

According to Kev, Hunter thought Punk's comments on Raw crossed a line. He believed that the 'Summer Of Punk' kingpin needed to be taught a lesson, so he flexed his muscles behind the curtain and had WWE creative change course from Punk vs. Nash.

Kevin didn't go into details about whether or not he was miffed about being removed from the PPV payday at Night Of Champions. One of the strangest things about all of this is that there wasn't really any call to put 'Big Sexy' in there with Punk in the first place.

That felt like an odd fit, and the match with Triple H made more sense. It was never supposed to happen though.

Of course, Punk and Hunter are on good terms now. They've patched things up and moved on since CM returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023.
