Kevin Owens Signs New WWE Main Roster Contract

Owens will be a WWE main roster regular effective immediately.

Kevin Owens, the current WWE NXT Champion, has been officially promoted. After two weeks of playing with the big boys and reportedly impressing WWE officials, F4WOnline reports that Owens has signed a permanent deal to be on the WWE main roster. It also notes that he will be making the storyline transition from the NXT brand to the main brand quickly. As we previously noted, Owens is booked for all Raw events going forward and is also going to work on WWE main roster live events. According to the report, Owens will continue as a character on NXT television for the next few months so that it's a smooth transition out of NXT for him since he's the current NXT Champion. This comes just one day after there was a lot of speculation that this was going to happen, but now that it's confirmed we know that WWE is going to take the NXT Title off him within a few months. The next NXT Takeover special takes place in August, so he's either going to drop the title there or at one of the tapings before that. They usually tape four shows in a day in order to cover four weeks of NXT. Owens is currently locked into feuds with newcomer Samoa Joe, injured former best friend Sami Zayn (he's out for the rest of the year) and Finn Balor, who is the #1 contender for the NXT Title. Balor seems like the right choice to be NXT Champion although it's far from a sure thing. Owens has made a quick transition in WWE after debuting in NXT in December. He wrestled for 15 years before he was in WWE and the 31 year old has shown that he belongs. He clearly has all the skills to be a main event level performer in WWE for the next decade because of his ability to have great matches and also make an impression on the microphone as well. While it's no surprise that it has only taken him six months to get to the main roster, there are some people that have been in developmental for five years that likely wonder when it's their turn too. It's a promotion that's very well deserved for Owens, who faces John Cena at Elimination Chamber this Sunday in what is the biggest match of his career and is also only the beginning of a very bright WWE future for him.
