Main Event Confirmed For IMPACT Wrestling Emergence 2021
Christian vs. Curt Hawkins for IMPACT Wrestling's main prize; the 2021 wrestling scene is wild.
IMPACT Wrestling's next IMPACT Plus special - Emergence on Friday, 20 August - will see Brian Myers challenge Christian Cage for the World Championship.
Myers earned the main event slot by winning a Battle Royal on this week's IMPACT episode, last dumping Moose and Chris Sabin from the ring to be crowned the number one contender. This will mark his first singles title opportunity in IMPACT, having previously been a World Tag Team Champion in 2015.
Christian, meanwhile, dethroned Kenny Omega on the inaugural AEW Rampage episode. With this, Omega lost the first of his three championships. Cage now has Omega's number heading into their AEW World Championship match at All Out in September.
Cage hasn't wrestled for IMPACT since November 2008, with his last match there seeing him lose to Booker T at the Turning Point pay-per-view. He had previously spent three years there, debuting in November 2005. While there, he was a two-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, but crucially, he never tasted the IMPACT World Championship, contrary to online popular belief.
IMPACT has since confirmed 'The Instant Classic' for this Thursday's IMPACT episode. They're scheduled to tape content - including Emergence - over 15, 16, and 17 August, with Cage booked for the latter two dates.
