Paul Heyman played a huge role in putting a young, hungry WWE Raw roster together in 2019, reports Fightful Select.

The report states that Heyman went out of his way to get hold of some of the promotion's more underutilized performers, with the former ECW man even going as far as turning down more established wrestlers like Braun Strowman, who was mentioned by name. All of this went down during Heyman's stint as Raw Executive Director.

As far as the initial appointment goes, it is noted that several people within WWE were highly surprised that Heyman stepped up to work under Vince McMahon in the first place, though he was a commanding presence in and around the creative department before the elevation and after it.

Stephanie McMahon reportedly turned the position down as she was more than satisfied in her existing spot, while WWE insiders believe Triple H would have had the job if he wanted it.

Heyman currently works primarily as an on-air talent, serving as Universal Champion Roman Reigns' manager on SmackDown. He served as Executive Director from June 2019 until his abrupt demotion 12 months later.
