NJPW G1 Climax 2019 Night 6 (July 19) - B BLOCK: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Tomohiro Ishii Vs. Jon Moxley

Dean Ambrose Jon Moxley
WWE/NJPW

Swinging his shoulders not for effect but more to remind opponent Tomohiro Ishii that a former 'Hound' had more than enough bite to take on a 'Stone Pitbull', Jon Moxley readied himself for the war he was about to engage in by declaring it - stealing a fan's chair and lobbing it into the ring from the crowd earned gasps from the crowd as 'Mox' continued to present himself as the thinking man's Bruiser Brody.

What followed was a scrap the Japanese legend Frank Goodish would have been incredibly proud of.

Extracting the best from everything either of them have ever done, Moxley and Ishii proved themselves performers and polymaths in an exceptional, exceptional outing that traversed between wrestling match, end-of-the-world weapons war and total reinvention of the heavyweight brawl genre.

Brock Lesnar-like in his refusal to be bulldozed by Ishii, Jon Moxley made himself ten-foot tall on offense. Sh*tkicker and underdog in equal measures, Ishii's comebacks were all the more absorbing as he angrily assessed the damage he had to inflict - you could almost hear the proverbial engine purring as the pair went up the gears. Proverbial, because all you could really hear was the sound of one of wrestling's most discerning audiences losing their f*cking minds in unison at this dense bouquet of immaculately-executed violence.
