No Big Plans For WWE Raw's 1,500th Episode Yet

Milestone show just a week away, but nothing special on tap to report.

If there's one thing WWE loves to do repeatedly, it's celebratory navel-gazing. The company will find a way to toot its own horn and play up any anniversary or milestone it can to try to make the moment seem even more monumental.

That's why a report from Fightful Select is awfully confusing. Sunday, the site reported that Raw will mark its 1,500th episode next week, February 21, but the outlet is not aware "of any special presentation surrounding the show." It's entirely possible we could get a few teasers on Raw this week, but the fact that there is no scuttlebutt for this show as of yet is a bit surprising.

WWE has played up several milestones for Raw through the years, including its 10-year and 25-year anniversaries, the show's 1,000th episode, and countless other specials like Raw Reunion and Old School Raw. Raw debuted in January 1993, which means the show will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.

The last major episode milestone, Raw 1,000, was a huge affair in July 2012, marked by AJ Lee leaving Daniel Bryan at the altar to become Raw GM, D-Generation X reuniting, The Rock returning and John Cena cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase to challenge CM Punk for the WWE Championship. Punk would turn heel that night by attacking Rock.

That packed show averaged 6 million viewers, while Raw lately has been averaging 1.6-1.8 million viewers each week. We'll see very soon if WWE is going to try to stack the 1,500th episode to juice the ratings and really celebrate this milestone.
