WWE announced the full field for the revived NXT Breakout Tournament during last night's Great American Bash special, unveiling all eight participants at the top of the entrance ramp.
Trey Baxter, Carmelo Hayes, Ikemen Jro, Joey Gacy, and Andre Chase, all of whom have already wrestled on WWE television under their current guises, comprise the first four. Elsewhere, debutants Odyssey Jones and Josh Briggs are joined by Duke Hudson.
Hudson is the repackaged Brendan Vink, who lasted featured on WWE television in spring 2020, when he became a semi-regular on Raw at the COVID-19 pandemic's onset. Renamed Tony Modra while away from our screens, he has seemingly been rechristened once again. The Australian was once earmarked for a considerable main roster push, so it'll be interesting to see how he does.
Jiro and Hudson face each other in the tournament's opening match next Wednesday.
The Breakout Tournament's return was announced on last week's show, with the winner receiving a future title shot of their choosing. Held in 2019, the first competition was won by Jordan Myles, who unsuccessfully challenged for Adam Cole's NXT Championship in the aftermath.
