Power Ranking WWE's 10 Top Performers For September 2016
1. AJ Styles
The Royal Rumble debut and his performance in the match was incredible, but no one expected AJ Styles to be where he is right now. When WrestleMania 32 rolled around and Styles lost to Chris Jericho - a guy who is willing to put over anyone and everyone - it felt like a bad sign that the ultra-talented wrestler had already peaked in WWE.
That couldn't have been further from the truth.
AJ Styles is hands down the most entertaining performer in the company today and belongs at the top of this list. He has very few peers when it comes to his ability between the ropes - a fact parroted by respected wrestling minds such as Steve Austin and Jim Ross - and is capable of turning in a **** match with anyone on the roster.
His ring work was never in question, but the knock against Styles was always whether or not he'd be able to stand out as a character within the world of WWE where charisma is a more valued trait than technical skill.
AJ has proven all his detractors wrong and has arguably become the most charismatic guy on either show. His heel turn felt ill-advised, and while the fans still want to cheer him - and do so in most circumstances - he's been amazing in the villain role. He's such a hilarious jerk and has been booked so strongly that it's not hurt his perception with the fans.
Practically everything he's been involved with since his debut has been gold, and putting the world heavyweight title on him was the right decision. While Ambrose was losing a bit of momentum, Styles has only been gaining it and he's WWE's top star right now. If he keeps this up, 2016 will be the year of AJ Styles.
