17. Greg Valentine Vs. The Junkyard Dog (WrestleMania 1)

A relatively abbreviated bout (receiving roughly half as much time as the David Sammartino-Brutus Beefcake snoozer that preceded it), Valentine and Dog kept it simple and safe. At the time, champion Valentine's real nemesis was Tito Santana, who had dispatched of The Executioner (Buddy Rose) in the opener. Today at WrestleMania, two feuding wrestlers certainly wouldn't be set apart in different matches. The match is little more than seven minutes of Dog's charismatic antics against Valentine's meticulous weardowns. Valentine initially won with his feet on the ropes, but Santana protested, getting the match restarted. The Dog won by countout, which of course didn't change the title. Santana would later take the belt from "The Hammer" in July, following an incredible steel cage match.
