WrestleMania title shot: Defeated Batista at WrestleMania XXIII

It’s a little surprising to think that heading into 2007, the Undertaker had been with WWF/E for 17 years and had never won the Royal Rumble. By that time, however, Taker was thought to be winding down his career as a full-time wrestler. Consider that about after three injury-plagued years, he transitioned to being a special attraction, showing up sporadically and defending his undefeated WrestleMania streak.

But in 2007, Undertaker entered at #30 and won the Rumble. He would go on to face Batista at Mania. The World Heavyweight Championship title match was stuck in the middle of the card, before the Battle of the Billionaires and the WWE Championship match. Taker and Batista then went out and had a barn-burner of a match, trying to steal the show in part due to their placement on the card.

Taker’s title reign would last for only a month, as Edge would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the title. Undertaker would get his revenge a year later at WrestleMania XXIV, when he’d defeat Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship.
